The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the organization of special exams for students participating in sports and Olympiads. According to a notice issued on the official CBSE website, cbse.nic.in, these special exams will be held within 15 days after the conclusion of the regular board exams. This initiative aims to encourage and support youth involvement in sports.
History of the Special Examination
Since March 2018, CBSE has been providing special examination opportunities for 10th and 12th-grade students involved in national or international sports and Olympiads. This ensures that students engaged in these activities do not face academic losses. From 2020 onwards, the board extended this opportunity to students participating in international Olympiads. However, there are specific rules and timelines set by CBSE to avail of this benefit.
Eligibility Criteria
This provision is exclusively for the main theory board examinations, not including practical exams. It applies to students whose board exam dates coincide with sports events or travel sanctioned by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) or the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Similarly, students participating in International Olympiads recognized by the Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education (HBCSE) are also eligible for these special exams.
Application Process
Students need to submit certificates issued by recognized authorities like SAI, BCCI, or HBCSE to their respective schools. Schools will then forward the applications to CBSE by December 31, 2024. The CBSE Regional Office will notify the schools of approval by January 15, 2025. Following the acceptance, special exams will be conducted within 15 days after the regular board exams.
This initiative by CBSE ensures that students excelling in sports and Olympiads do not face academic setbacks and can continue to pursue their passions alongside their studies.
