Jay Shah Loses ACC Presidency as Shammi Silva Takes Over
In a surprising turn of events, Jay Shah, the newly appointed Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has lost his position as the Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Shammi Silva, the current President of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, has been appointed as the new ACC President, replacing Jay Shah who had been serving in this role since 2021. Silva has a long history with ACC, having previously chaired the Finance and Marketing Committee for several years.
Shammi Silva expressed his delight at being elected as the new ACC President and committed to advancing Asian cricket. He stated, “It is an honor to lead the Asian Cricket Council. Cricket is the heartbeat of Asian fans, and I will collaborate with all countries to elevate the game in Asia. We aim to provide opportunities to emerging players and enhance relationships through this beautiful game.”
Upon taking over the ACC Presidency, Silva thanked Jay Shah for his contributions. Silva has been the President of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board since 2019. In contrast, Jay Shah, who recently became the ICC Chairman, had to relinquish his roles as ACC President and BCCI Secretary. Silva joins a list of distinguished Sri Lankans who have held the ACC Presidency, including Gamini Dissanayake, Upali Dharmadasa, Thilanga Sumathipala, Jayanta Dharmadasa, and Arjun Ranatunga.
