The Umngot River of Meghalaya is considered to be the cleanest river in the country. The water is so clear that boats are seen floating on glass. It flows through the town of Dawki in East Jaintia Hills district near the Indo-Bangladesh border, 85 km from Shillong. People also call it a paradise hidden in the hills. There is a fine of up to 5000 rupees for filth in this river.
